The scope of Mixed Reality for automotive industry goes way beyond the conventional industrial approach, as the use cases go past the manufacturing and engineering functions, to consumer engagement. The heads-up-display is an example of AR being leveraged for consumer engagement and with the penetration of technology and software/displays in automotive, the vehicles are now play grounds for automotive engineers and consumer alike. From simply viewing the 3D CAD designs in VR for visualization, MR has found number of compelling use cases in Automotive with design review, ergonomic studies, using particle physicals for aerodynamic testing, trying out various styling options, reachability and visibility check in the engineering side. On production, MR is being used for assembly line worker training, assembly instructions, factory monitoring, utilities maintenance etc. On consumer side, MR is helping setup virtual showrooms, training service engineers at workshops, trouble shooting on the go, user instruction manuals and feature explanations… and we are just getting started
